1 Day to Go!

I can’t believe the weekend is already here! We are scurrying around getting everything ready to go tomorrow as we head to Duluth. The MS Society has this great program called “Champions Against MS”. They pair cyclists (or teams) with a “Champion” that has MS. Our Champion, Bob, sent an email to earlier this week that he asked be shared with the team. I am including it here so that all our sponsors can see it - you are all part of the team!

“It is difficult for me to express to you how I feel about your decision to ride in the MS150 because I take it personally. It is a choice you made, and not an easy one. You’ve all made commitments to getting pledges, sacrificing your time and energy, getting things ready, and pedaling 150 miles in 2 days. Just thinking about all that makes me emotional, because to me it’s a very personal thing, just like having MS is. I don’t want to motivate you by telling you how tough it can be to have MS, (some of you know already) but that’s not what this is all about. I think it is more to make this as personal for you, as it is for me (and all 7500 of us in our area with Multiple Sclerosis).
“Sure there will be some fun and ‘wacky’ times along the way. However what you are about to undertake is more than you can ask someone to do, for any reason. Some of you will push your body beyond its limits, I can relate to that. It takes a very unique kind of person to volunteer for something like the MS150. You ARE that amazingly special person. Thank you for being here. People like you are a rare breed and hard to find, yet there will be over 3000 here for this event. (Wow, what a wonderful thought!) The funds raised by your efforts will help the people like me in ways that may surprise you, and I that couldn’t begin to explain.
“I cannot be with you physically during the ride, but I WILL be with you in spirit. The whole way, all 150 miles of it, I will be thinking of each of you. I will be praying for your safety and success. When you are starting to feel tired, or having trouble getting up a hill, or if your neck and shoulders are feeling stiff, try not to think of the pain. Hang in there and remember, I know you can do this. I am right there to help get you through. We all are with you, the volunteers/support crew and all of us ‘champions’ with MS. In my opinion, it’s not us, but you who are the champions. You have my deepest respect and my heartfelt thanks for taking this on.”

One final word of thanks to all our awesome sponsors! We couldn’t do it without you. We hope to have pictures of the fun posted early next week!

I was fortunate enough to be able to come along with Jon on the 2007 Police Unity Tour in Virginia in mid-May. It was an awesome event, with about 250 riders from the Virginia Chapter (of which Minnesota and Wisconsin are a part… go figure) and the same from the Florida and California Chapters. They rode roughly 220 miles over three days in memory of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
As a non-cop, I was not eligible to pedal the ride, but I was given the opportunity to drive a Yukon and trailer, with lights but no siren. That afforded me the chance to shoot about 3000 photos of the ride, both at rest stops and on the route.
I never quite shook the sense I was in trouble whenever I saw a pile of flashing lights and sirens coming up behind me in the parade. And there was always a little heartrate acceleration as I approached a yellow or red light and just drove through it. But I s’pose that’s not an entirely bad thing either. I’d like to thank Big Tennessee for keeping me in line with a small gap and never yelling at me for shooting while driving. I clearly have never taken procession driving 101.
I had a great time. So much, in fact, that I decided to put my photo collection out for individual print sales in an effort to raise enough money to come back next year (if they’ll have me). So… follow the link at the bottom of the page to get to my photo store. I haven’t used it in a while, so bear with me if there are a few kinks in the system while it gets underway. I applied a “25% off any order over $25″ sale through the end of June. Prints are done at a professional-quality lab and will be color corrected. There may be some soft-focus shots in the mix yet. I tried to pull them all out, but there were so many photos in the collection, I couldn’t view each one individually. Also note that the non-flash night photos from Norfolk and the Candlelight Vigil will be blurry. I included them because I thought some people may want one anyway. Next year I’ll send the tripod in the truck.
So with that… here’s the link to the store. Click HERE!

I am posting an email we received this week from one of our team members. We all have different reasons for riding - for better health, for camaraderie, for so many reasons…but underneath it all, we ride as an MS-150 team to make a difference for those that are suffering from MS.

Deacon Jon will ride in the Police Unity Tour ride May 10-12, 2007. He will be riding 240 plus miles from Portsmouth, Virginia to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington, DC. Wade has signed up to be on the support team. They will both be working over the next few months to raise funds for the ride.
More info about the ride can be found here:
